The Spring/Summer 2008 looks introduced volume to balance ankle-length slim pants that ranged from casual styles to comfortable resort elegance in either a calming colour palette of white and neutrals

Stripes in any order were abundant on the runway, appearing on shirts, pants and jackets, which looked best when matched with the essential white pants for summer.

Plaids and all forms of checks replaced stripes in autumn as the foremost pattern while the skinny tie, slimmer shirt collar and cardigan became must-haves in any trendy man’s closet for autumn. As always, Prada once again proved its superiority in fashion innovation with a striking collection of back-buttoning shirts and fragmented dressing wrapped in a near-feminine manner.

christian louboutin, NOT BAGS

In spite of a slew of nice new bag designs this year, the It-Bag mania appears to be evaporating quickly as women are opting for classic designs and shifting their focus to their footwear instead.

christian shoes creations on the fashion runway have been outstanding the past few seasons and in spring, the strappy gladiator christian louboutin louboutin shoes and the chunky wedge emerged as must-haves to complete the summer look. The platform heel that elongates the legs was full blown this year and appeared in the most creative ways with colours, textures and unusual heels on sandals, pumps and boots.

Thanks to the Sex and the City movie, designer louboutin labels are hot again this year, paving the way for a new breed of christian louboutin shoes designers such as Pierre Hardy, Steven Madden and Jonathan Kelsey to flourish in this exciting year of christian louboutin.

RETURN OF THE SUPERMODELS

Flip through any glossy fashion magazines this year and you will notice that the original gang of supermodels from the 80s and early 90s are back with a vengeance, appearing in a series of ad campaigns for leading fashion brands.

Leading the revival of the "superlook" was Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton, who roped in ex-supermodels such as Stephanie Seymour, Eva Herzigova and Naomi Campbell among the 12 most celebrated models in the past 20 years to open his Spring/Summer 2008 show and appear thereafter in its seasonal ad campaign.

This was followed by Linda Evangelista starring in Prada ads for Autumn, Claudia Schiffer in Chanel and Salvatore Ferragamo, Christy Turlington in Escada and Naomi Campbell in Yves Saint Laurent, who will be replaced by Schiffer in spring next year. Another notable return was 64-year-old Lauren Hutton, the original supermodel of the 70s, in a stunning Autumn campaign for Mango.

FASHION MILESTONES

Time flies quickly and a handful of international fashion brands and designers clocked in their years of contribution to the industry this year. In the United States, Donna Karan’s DKNY celebrated its 20th year on the runway with an anniversary collection for Spring 2009 during Fashion Week in September.

Banana Republic turned 30 while Calvin Klein Inc celebrated 40 years in the business with a star-studded party on the elevated rail structure of New York’s High Line.

Elsewhere, celebrities flew into Shanghai to toast 80 glorious years of the legendary luxury house Salvatore Ferragamo, while French "sports chic" label Lacoste celebrated 75 years with a futuristic campaign that fast-forwarded its tennis roots by 75 years to 2083.

Sonia Rykiel held her 40th anniversary bash on the outskirts of Paris with a sit-down dinner and runway show, unlike Karl Lagerfeld, who surprised everyone with no celebration at all as he clocked in 25 innovative years for Chanel this year.
